About Storms River
Storms River is nestled within the Tsitsikamma National Park, an extremely picturesque region of the Garden Route of South Africa. It is approximately 700km to the east of Cape Town, and 200km to the west of Port Elizabeth.
Storms River village is located just off the N2, a major motorway in South Africa, and so is relatively easily accessible by car or bus. It has a small and varied population – with English, Afrikaans and Xhosa languages all being spoken. Storms River has a real community feeling, with slow and easy pace, and the residents are friendly and welcoming.
The village comprises a number of small grocery stores where you’ll find the basics, an ATM, a hotel, and a selection of tourist activities related to the Tsitsikamma National Park. It also has a police station, a health centre and a fire station.
Just outside of the village is where the majority of Storms River residents live, in RDP housing provided for free by the South African government. Among these houses, the residents have come together to set up a community hall and a school, and a number of small shops are scattered throughout the township.
